August Full Moon 2025: An All-Greece Cultural Celebration

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture continues its cherished summer tradition with the “August Full Moon 2025” events, a series of cultural happenings set against the backdrop of the year’s most luminous moon. Coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, this nationwide celebration offers the public a unique opportunity to experience the country’s most significant archaeological sites, museums, and monuments in a magical, nocturnal setting. The primary events are scheduled for the night of the full moon, Saturday, August 9, 2025, with a broader program of activities taking place from August 8th through August 13th.

For this 25th consecutive year, a total of 114 archaeological sites, historical landmarks, and museums across Greece will welcome visitors after dusk. Many of these locations will offer free admission for all, simply to enjoy the moonlit atmosphere of these historic grounds. In addition, 71 of these sites will host a variety of special events, thoughtfully curated to enhance the experience. The program includes a diverse range of activities such as musical concerts, theatrical and dance performances, stargazing sessions, mythological storytelling, and guided tours. These events are organized by the regional services of the Ministry of Culture, often in close collaboration with local municipalities and cultural associations, embedding them deeply within the community. This initiative allows for a special connection between the public, Greece’s immense cultural heritage, and the natural beauty of the August night sky.
