Geotour emerges from a singular dedication: to offer a deeper, more personal window into the beautiful landscapes and rich heritage of Crete.
This web platform, named using the Greek word ‘γῆ’ (geo) for ‘earth’, is an independent initiative. It started in May 2024 due to a desire to create a space that promotes Crete's authentic character and supports businesses that focus on genuine experiences and environmental respect, rather than mass tourism. It also serves as a personal project for learning and development. As photography is my primary interest, Geotour was conceived as a platform for these images. The main goal was to present locations not just as aesthetically pleasing photographs, but as places with human history and unique ecological and environmental characteristics, such as fragile ecosystems, areas of biodiversity, or landscapes shaped by sustainable human interaction.
By highlighting these combined historical, cultural, and natural values, the hope is to encourage a greater appreciation for these locations. The objective is to translate this appreciation into an understanding of why these places are valuable, thereby increasing their perceived importance and strengthening the commitment to preserve them for future generations. In a rapidly changing Crete, it is important to find motivations to reflect and slow the pace of alterations that permanently damage its heritage. If Geotour, by showing the depth and fragility of these Cretan areas, can contribute to that reflection and deeper consideration, it fulfills its main purpose.
