Kalamaki Beach is a long stretch of golden sand lining the south coast of Crete, near the village of Kamilari, facing Messara Gulf and Paximadia islets. It offers a relaxed atmosphere, but be aware that the beach can be quite windy with waves and currents, due to the composition of the seabed. This can make it less ideal for young children without supervision, or weak swimmers in certain areas. Parts of the beach are organized with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, while other areas are more natural and secluded. Kalamaki caters to a variety of preferences, so if you’re looking for a lively beach or a quieter spot, you’ll likely find something to suit you. Just remember that towards the southeast end, the beach transitions into Kommos Beach, which is popular with naturists.
