After their original wireless radio failed early in the trek, hindering direct communication with SOE Cairo, contact was crucially re-established around May 9, 1944. This occurred near the village of Pantanassa in the Amari Valley, thanks to the efforts of Cretan runner George Psychoundakis and SOE officer Dick Barnes, who managed to bring a working wireless set to the team. Restored communications allowed for the coordination of the final, successful extraction plan.
