History

The village is first mentioned in 1925, when it was annexed to the community of Armenoi. In 1928, it became the seat of its own community. According to the Kallikratis plan, Mesa Apidi, along with Goudouras, Exo Apidi and Kalos Lakkos, form the community of Apidia, which belongs to the municipal unit of Lefki and is part of the municipality of Sitia.

The village is believed to have been founded after the 16th century, as it is not mentioned in the 1583 census of Castrofilaca. The name of the village comes from the pear tree (apidia), although there are no pear trees in the village today.
