Kalo Chorio (Καλό Χωριό) is a remote village in the municipality of Sitia, Lasithi, Crete. It is located in the eastern part of the island, about 36 kilometers away from the town of Sitia. The village is nestled in the mountains at an altitude of 560 meters, offering picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. Geography and History
Kalo Chorio is situated in the southeastern part of the Lasithi regional unit, 32 km south-southeast of Sitia and 3.5 km southeast of Ziros. The village is not mentioned in the Venetian census of 1583, while in the Turkish census of 1671 it is believed to be the one with the name Nikourio, which came from the corruption of the words Neo Chorio (New Village). It was first mentioned as Kalo Chorio in the census of 1881 with 136 inhabitants, while in 1928 it had 155 inhabitants. In 1925 it is mentioned in the Government Gazette 27A – 31/01/1925 as being annexed to the then community of Ziros. According to the Kallikratis Plan, together with Ziros, Agia Irini, Agrilia, Lamnoni, Xirokambos and Chamaitoulo, they form the Community of Ziros, which belongs to the municipal unit of Lefki of the Municipality of Sitia and according to the 2011 census has a population of 9 inhabitants.
