Epilinia 2025: A Celebration of Wine and Culture in Vathypetro

The Cultural and Landscaping Association of Vathypetro, in collaboration with the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia, the Region of Crete, and the Regional Development Fund of Crete, presents “Epilinia 2025,” an atmospheric event dedicated to Cretan wine, culture, and tradition under the August full moon. Set in the historic location of Vathypetro, this third annual celebration brings together winemakers, enthusiasts, and art lovers for a multifaceted experience.
The event takes place in the significant archaeological area of Vathypetro, located approximately four kilometers south of Archanes, where the oldest known wine press, dating back to the Minoan era, was discovered. This fact highlights the deep, continuous history of viticulture and winemaking in the region. “Epilinia” aims to evolve into an institution that honors Crete’s past and present through its wine, traditions, arts, and scientific knowledge.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the offerings of twelve distinguished Cretan wineries, sampling labels that embody the character and dynamism of the Cretan vineyard. The wine tasting is thoughtfully paired with a selection of exquisite Cretan cheeses, creating a unique food and wine pairing experience that enhances the distinct notes of each variety.
The evening also features a cultural and educational dimension. Dr. Minas Trikritsis, a researcher of Aegean scripts, will deliver a compelling talk on the theme “Wine from the past to the present.” He will be joined by Stelios Zacharioudakis, President of the Wines of Crete network, who will discuss the modern trajectory and future of Cretan wine.
Adding to the sensory experience, the venue will host two art exhibitions: a painting exhibition by the MOTIVO school and a mosaic exhibition by the creator Soula Rasidaki. The celebration culminates in a magical musical performance under the full moon, featuring the voice of Eleni Tornesaki in a special collaboration with Michalis Skoulas and Thanasis Kanakousakis. Their music, rooted in Cretan tradition with contemporary influences, promises a memorable journey of sounds.
