Rodakas presents a traditional weaving workshop designed for children and teenagers in the village of Margarites, Mylopotamos, guided by the artisan weaver Irini Xanthioti. This recurring workshop series, running from November 2025 to March 2026, aims to introduce young participants to the rich cultural heritage of Cretan textile arts through hands-on practice.

The workshop provides a comprehensive experience covering the entire textile creation process, from raw material to finished product. Participants will explore different weaving techniques, working on both simple frames and traditional Cretan seated looms. The sessions will focus on reproducing traditional Cretan motifs as well as encouraging personal creativity, resulting in both individual and collective textile projects.

Beyond the loom, the activities connect deeply with local traditions and the natural environment. Attendees will learn to create their own natural dyes using locally sourced leaves, fruits, and flowers to color yarns and fabrics. A key part of the program involves learning the traditional method of spinning raw sheep’s wool into yarn. The educational aspect is enriched with storytelling, exploring the myths, history, and significant role of the weaver and her textiles within the traditional Cretan household.

To conclude the series, an exhibition and celebration will be held to present the works created by the young participants.
