August Full Moon at Zominthos: Film Screening and Concert
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Rethymno participates in the “August Full Moon 2025” celebrations by hosting a special evening at the archaeological site of Zominthos, in collaboration with the Municipality of Anogeia. This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of this significant Minoan site, nestled on the slopes of Mount Psiloritis, under the glow of the full moon. The evening is dedicated to archaeology and music, connecting the ancient landscape with contemporary artistic expression.
The event begins with a screening of the documentary “The Trace of Time” by Dionysia Kopana. The film is a poignant tribute to time, memory, and nostalgia, presented as a post-mortem portrait of the distinguished archaeologist Giannis Sakellarakis, who led the excavations at Zominthos. Following the film, the night will continue with a musical performance by the acclaimed Cretan musician Giagos Chairetis, whose work is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of the island.
This event is part of a nationwide initiative by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, offering free access to numerous archaeological sites and museums to celebrate the August full moon. Admission to the Zominthos archaeological site will be free for the duration of the event. Please note that smoking and the consumption of food and drinks are not permitted on site.
