Arvi Banana Festival 2025

The Cultural, Educational, and Beautification Association of Arvi is hosting the 7th annual Banana Festival, a well-established event in southern Crete that celebrates the region’s unique local product and its place of origin. This year’s festival, held from August 8th to 10th, 2025, is dedicated to the memory of Nikos Papadakis, a beloved figure who devoted himself to the culture and the Association of Arvi, serving as a heartfelt tribute to his valuable legacy.
With the support of the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Viannos, the Heraklion Port Authority, and the local banana producers, the village of Arvi will come alive with the aromas, music, and flavours of its most famous fruit. Upon arrival, visitors will be treated to the renowned banana liqueur, a gold medal winner at the 5th Gastronomy Festival of Eastern Crete. The women of the village will also be preparing delicious homemade banoffee for all attendees to enjoy in the central square. Complementing the culinary delights, a unique photography exhibition by Nikos Kikakis (Foto.kik) will offer a visual journey into the history of Arvi, its people, and the story of the banana.
The event showcases the deep connection between the village of Arvi and its celebrated banana, known for its distinct aroma and sweet taste, which thrives in the area’s unique microclimate. The festival provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the local culture, traditions, and the warm hospitality of its people.
