Great news for all history lovers and explorers in Crete! An incredible opportunity is coming up to experience the island’s world-class museums and archaeological sites without any cost. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming free admission weekend and all the other ways to access Crete’s cultural treasures for free or at a reduced price.
European Heritage Days: Free Admission Weekend
In celebration of the European Heritage Days, all archaeological sites, monuments, and museums managed by the state will offer free entry for everyone on:
- Saturday, September 27, 2025
- Sunday, September 28, 2025
This is the perfect chance to finally visit iconic sites like the Palace of Knossos, the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, the Minoan Palace of Phaistos, or the Archaeological Museum of Chania.
Important Clarification
This offer applies exclusively to sites and museums that are under the management of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. This means that some private or municipally-run institutions are not included. For example, the Natural History Museum of Crete in Heraklion is not part of this free admission event. Always check with a specific museum if you are unsure.
