The 9th Festos Run offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich historical and natural landscape of southern Crete, combining sport with cultural heritage. Organized by the Cultural & Professional Association of Kalamaki, the Cultural Association of Kamilari, and the Cultural Association of Agios Ioannis, this event features running and walking routes that connect the renowned archaeological site of Phaistos with the charming coastal village of Kalamaki. Participants can choose from three different distances, each designed to highlight the beauty of the region, from ancient Minoan palaces to traditional villages and scenic seaside paths.

This well-organized event caters to a range of participants, from serious runners to families and walkers who wish to enjoy the scenery at a more leisurely pace. The main 8km race begins at the historically significant Phaistos archaeological site, guiding runners through the villages of Agios Ioannis and Kamilari before finishing along the Kalamaki coast. A shorter 4km route, suitable for both running and hiking, starts from the picturesque village of Kamilari. For younger participants, a 1km race is held in Kalamaki. The event emphasizes community and support, with a portion of the participation fee being donated to the “TO MELLON” association for people with disabilities. All participants receive a package that includes a commemorative medal, a technical t-shirt, and refreshments.
