The Cultural Association of Nefs Amari, in collaboration with the Municipality of Amari and the Region of Crete, presents a five-day cultural event from the 21st to the 25th of August. This series of events, a tradition since 2014, unfolds in the village of Nefs Amari and offers a diverse program that includes activities for children, tributes to significant cultural figures, sporting events, and evenings filled with traditional Cretan music. The celebration is an opportunity for locals and visitors to engage with the cultural heritage of this rural Cretan region.

The festivities commence with a day dedicated to children and entertainment, featuring enchanting sea tales narrated by Evagelia Orfanoudaki, accompanied by the original music of Alekos Fanourakis. The evening continues with a musical performance blending Cretan melodies with jazz influences. A notable part of the program is a tribute to the esteemed poet Manolis Anagnostakis, marking 100 years since his birth and 20 years since his passing, with talks exploring his life, work, and connection to his ancestral home of N. Amari.

The spirit of community and solidarity is highlighted with the “NEFSAMARIA” road races for all ages and a bazaar of handmade goods and traditional products organized by the “Social Group of Women of N. Amari – Opsigias,” with proceeds supporting charitable causes. The cultural celebration culminates with two evenings of authentic Cretan music, first with a traditional music night and concluding with the village’s feast day of Saint Titus, featuring a grand celebration with renowned local musicians.
