The Ephorate of Paleoanthropology and Speleology, together with the Melidoni Cultural Association, presents a special musical evening at the historic Melidoni Cave as part of the “August Full Moon 2025” festivities. Titled “In the Light of the Moon,” the event features a concert by performer Eleni Dramitinou, set in the evocative landscape just outside the cave entrance.

This event offers a unique chance to experience a site of immense natural beauty and profound historical importance. The Melidoni Cave, also known as Gerontospilios, holds a significant place in Cretan history, from its use as a place of worship in Minoan times to its tragic role as a refuge during the Cretan revolt of 1824. The concert, taking place in the open air under the night sky, aims to connect the area’s rich heritage with a live musical performance, creating a memorable cultural experience for all attendees.

The performance is scheduled for the evening after the August full moon, extending the cultural celebrations in the region of Rethymno.
