Eftazymo Celebration & Taste Festival in Kastamonitsa 2025

The Cultural & Beautification Association of Kastamonitsa organizes the annual Eftazymo Celebration and Taste Festival, a two-day event dedicated to the village’s most cherished traditional product. Taking place in the village of Kastamonitsa, the celebration revives the custom of baking the unique Cretan sourdough bread, known as ‘Eftazymo’, in traditional wood-fired ovens, filling the air with its distinctive and nostalgic aroma.
This event is a deep dive into the cultural heritage of rural Crete, showcasing a craft that is intrinsically linked to the identity of the village. For the people of Kastamonitsa, Eftazymo is more than just bread; it is the bread of hospitality, an essential element of every social occasion, from weddings to baptisms, and a symbol that connects the past with the present.
