Mountain Evasion

For approximately 18-20 days, from late April until their extraction in mid-May, the abduction team, including General Kreipe, trekked southwards across the rugged Psiloritis mountain range (Mount Ida). Their survival and evasion of large-scale German search parties depended entirely on the extensive support network of the Cretan resistance and local villagers, who provided shelter in villages like Anogeia, Pantanassa, Patsos, Karines, Asi Gonia, and Agia Paraskevi, as well as food, intelligence, and expert guidance through the treacherous terrain, all at immense personal risk.
