13th “Trygopatimata” Grape Harvest Festival in Kainourgio Chorio, 2025

The Cultural Association of Kainourgio Chorio “Agia Anastasia,” in collaboration with the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Hersonissos, presents the 13th annual “Trygopatimata,” a festival deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of the region, celebrating the traditional grape harvest. This event revives the customs surrounding the grape harvest and winemaking process, offering participants a journey through the island’s rich traditions. The celebration encompasses the entire cycle of the harvest, from picking grapes in the vineyard to the festive treading, the creation of traditional delicacies, and culminates in a classic Cretan feast.
The festival is centered around the local practice of winemaking, a craft that has defined the agricultural and cultural landscape of Crete for centuries. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, such as harvesting grapes and participating in the traditional pressing at the Wine Museum. The event also features educational talks, connecting Minoan history with the present, and tastings of local wines and traditional foods, providing a holistic cultural experience. The festivities conclude with a large open-air Cretan celebration featuring live traditional music. Admission to the daytime events is free for the public.
